How To Grow Your Rankings on Bing

How To Grow Your Rankings on Bing
August 30, 2016Kelly SmithWeb-MarketingGeneralmedia

Most of the people do not pay attention to Bing ranking factors and mainly focus on getting rank on Google. However, over the last couple of years, Bing’s market share has been increasing. Bing & Yahoo combined had 29.6% of U.S. Internet queries. If you compare the search results on Google and Bing you’ll see that the two engines rank sites differently. Here are the tips which help you in optimizing your website to grow your ranking.

Set the Crawl your site more frequently: Default crawl rate is typically quite low in Bing, so if your site is large then set your crawl rate to “full volume”. You can set the crawl rate and time of the day when you want your site to be crawled in Bing Webmaster Tools.

Add Separate Sitemap for Bing: Make sure to add a separate sitemap on bing via bing webmaster tools or you can either include the path to it in your robots.txt.

Bing SEO Analyzer: Discover your web pages for the Bing SEO best practices with the Bing Website Analyzer. You just to enter the URL and it will return a list of suggestions to improve your rankings across Bing & Yahoo.

Add your website to the Bing Website Analyzer and improve your website based on the suggestion provided by the above too.

Geographical Signals: While showing search results, Bing takes into account the geography of a web page more than Google. For Geographical signals, Bing uses the IP address, top-level domain, server location, meta GEO tags, etc.

Keyword domains: After the Google EMD update, exact match domains are no longer a ranking factor. But on bing, it’s a ranking factor.

Content Length: Bing stresses more on word count than that of Google. In Google, branded websites or brands get preference in ranking even. Whereas, Bing will rank the pages higher which has a higher word count along with a quality backlink.

Internal/External Links: Bing gives the weightage to the external links. The quality of outbound links from your site should be of high quality or else Bing will penalize you! Do make sure your outbound links are relevant. If your blog or site is a link farm, then cut it out to avoid penalty.

Monitor Performance: You need to constantly review your work efforts and determine whether or not your SEO efforts are paying off. However, you not only need to be monitoring keyword rankings but you need to thoroughly monitor and determine what keywords and traffic sources are producing the most conversions.

Load Speed: Bing and Google both give preference to user experience and having a slow load speed will count against the site, lowering the page ranking. Again, a page that takes too long to load negatively impacts the user experience. Bing wants to get users to a site that delivers what they are looking for inefficacious and enjoyable manner.

Page Authority: Bing gives priority to page authority of website, which is something that has to be built over time. Therefore, it is difficult for new sites to climb up the rankings with Bing. It is also recommended to keep the existing URL.

Final Words:
Although there is not much difference between Google and Bing algorithms. But Bing has some ranking factors which are different from Google and other basic SEO best practices are the same.
